WHO WE ARE - Officers and Directors
Russ McCann, President/CEO and Co-founder
Russ brings more than 22 years of high technology marketing and executive management experience to Actio Corporation. He is currently serving on the Board of Trustees of the Bigelow Laboratory for the Ocean Sciences a non-profit research foundation and based in Boothbay, Maine. Prior to founding Actio in 1996, Russ was CEO and co-founder of Ares Software Corporation, which invented a patented parametric font technology. Ares also produced and marketed a wide range of award winning Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh shrink-wrap software products before being acquired by Adobe Systems Incorporated in early 1996. Russ's association with Adobe Systems began in early 1990 having joined the Application Products Division of Adobe Systems, as Director of Accessory Products after their acquisition of Emerald City Software, in March of 1990. Russ served as Vice President of marketing and sales for Emerald City Software whose early success resulted from innovative Postscript Development tools on both the Apple Macintosh and NeXT operating systems. As Marketing Manager, International Marketing Manager and Manager of Product Marketing for Esselte Letraset Graphic Design Software U.S., Russ expanded the Company's traditional graphic arts product line, having joined the Letraset organization upon the acquisition of Boston Software Publishers, of which he was President and Co-founder. Boston Software Publishers produced the first commercially shipped product for the Apple Macintosh, which helped define the desktop publishing revolution. He has a BS and MBA from Northeastern University and specialized marketing studies from the Sloan School of Management at MIT. Often quoted, Russ is frequently called upon to speak at industry forums addressing wide ranging issues from technology trends to marketing strategies for privately held companies.

Kal Kawar, CIH, PE, Executive Vice President and Co-Founder
Kal joins Actio with 20 years of chemical engineering, industrial hygiene and environmental engineering experience. Since founding industrial hygiene consulting firm Tammer Sciences in 1993, Kal has initiated and supervised hundreds of industrial hygiene projects throughout the United States and Canada. Tammer Sciences currently contracts with Fortune 1000 industry and federal agencies including the EPA, DEA, GSA, National Archives and Records, the National Guard and the Social Security Administration. With a broad band of industrial consulting expertise, Kal's specialization includes SEMI S2 compliance, radiation investigation, investigations in indoor air quality, compliance air sampling, ergonomics, asbestos, lead based paint, ventilation, noise and related audits for industrial managed health and safety. A former Industrial Hygiene Program Manager for IBM Corporation, Kal established the infrastructure for developing IBM's industrial hygiene programs consistent with corporate safety and health policy. Kal's experience with IBM includes serving as Staff Industrial Hygienist for IBM's New York semiconductor manufacturing facility and also as Industrial Hygienist for their U.S. headquarters, where he managed the U.S. Field Asbestos program and participated in the management and implementation of field real estate safety and health programs. Kal has a BS in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University and a MS in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Pittsburgh. He has published and presented before the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and is co-chair of the education committee of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.

Rob Friedman, Director
Rob is a director of Actio and is cofounder and CEO of Open Security Solutions, a company formed to commercialize patented and patent pending information security technology. Mr. Friedman has served other technology infrastructure and e-commerce clients as a strategic business consultant since 1996, including SoftWatch Ltd., a developer of software to create targeted healthcare Web sites to support global pharmaceutical brand marketing. At SoftWatch he served initially as a member and then Chairman of the Board of Directors as well as its Senior Vice President of Finance & Administration. He is a software industry executive with senior operating management experience as cofounder and CEO of Bitstream (BITS) from 1981-1991, President & COO of Electronics for Imaging (EFII) in 1991 & 1992 and Chairman of Ares Software from 1993 until it was sold to Adobe Systems (ADBE) in 1996. Mr. Friedman has negotiated numerous strategic relationships in the technology industry and has raised over $60 million in venture capital. Mr. Friedman holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois and is a Certified Public Accountant having practiced with Arthur Andersen and Price Waterhouse.
